126M Blogs in the Interweb

First Google Image Result - Obscurity

The momentum of initial inspiration propelled me to draft a table of contents for my Twitter journey thus far.  That was weeks ago, and now I am forcibly motivating myself to write just my second blog post.

I should edit as if I have an audience, but write as if I don’t.  Maybe that’ll keep me from procrastinating.

There are over 126 million blogs in the Interweb, according to last year’s tally.1  That’s essentially the same as every single human being (man, woman, child) in Japan having a blog.2  With numbers like that, it is nearly impossible to hope that my blog will ever rise from obscurity.

The good news: I am content with being undefined.  If I had to pick a theme for this blog, that would be it.

Is anyone reading this?

Title: Untitled.

I posted my first tweet in March 2007 (one month before Twitter became an official company1). Twitter had just made a huge splash at SXSW, so I opted to share it with my agency at the time, at our staff meeting. The tweet: “Trying out for my show and tell.” It went out via text message and posted to my Twitter profile and IM status.

Had I stayed with it, I could’ve been one of the Twitter pioneers. I could have thousands of followers. I could be influencing the protocol and writing articles about Twitter strategy.

Instead, roughly three years passed until I posted my first real tweet2. I currently have 183 followers and I still find myself poring over how-to articles.

Why now? Simple reason: Jumping on the bandwagon. Real reason: To develop an opinion about Twitter, that is educated and influenced by personal experience.

Will it pay to be a late adopter?
